Strasbourg (2)

24 June 2015:  We enjoyed an active day in Strasbourg, a very interesting and attractive city.  We took advantage of the central location of our apartment:  We could go out for some activity, return to the apartment and then go out again in some other direction, with a different goal.

By this morning, I had come to the conclusion that I would, indeed, buy new boots.  So we returned to Vieux Campeur, I tried on several pairs of boots again and finally made a selection (which happened to be the same brand and model as my previous boots).  Back in the apartment, I had second thoughts about the size.  So we returned to Vieux Campeur, and I exchanged the size 42 boots for size 42.5.  I hope that this will be the last mention of hiking boots in my blog:  No news will be good news!

In the afternoon, we visited the Alsatian Museum (Musée Alsacien).  We recalled this museum from visits to Strasbourg in the 1980s and were keen to see its collection again.  The museum presents artifacts that illustrate traditional Alsatian life from early modern times through the 19th century.  It would be helpful to have more extensive explanations of the items on display, but even without much explanation, they are quite interesting.

We ended the day with a drink on the terrace of a café with Paul, a former neighbor in Saint-Germain-en-Laye, who has just completed his first degree in an art school here in Strasbourg and will begin his studies for a master's degree in the autumn.  It was interesting to hear about student life in Strasbourg.

The old boot:  Note the crack in the leather – big enough to allow water to enter!

Shopping finished, it was time to visit the Alsatian Museum!
