Dudelange

5 June 2015:  Today was a blazing hot day – blue, cloudless sky with the temperature rising to about 32 degrees.  The "trail" from Mondorf-les-Bains to Dudelange (22 km) was mostly paved roads crossing open countryside.  Happily, there were three sections of the route that passed through forests.  I really appreciated that shade when I got it!  I must say that the walk through the open countryside offered little in the way of scenery or interesting experiences to compensate for the difficult conditions.  This was a simply a long, hard trek to be finished, keeping in mind the shower and good Auxerrois wine that were waiting for me at my destination.

The trail began with a pleasant walk along a stream in the middle of Mondorf-les-Bains.

The little stream marks the border between Luxembourg and France.  The old customs posts are still there, disused, of course.

Another border crossing:  The trail crossed the stream on this little bridge and led to a pleasant, wooded trail in France.

All too soon, however, the trail broke into the open and followed a country road, crossing the (unmarked) border back into Luxembourg along the way.

At least there were poppies!

I encountered a bench with shade!

I appreciated this forest trail around midday, after lunch:

Back on a road...

These cattle were gathered around a water fountain.  There was a bit of pushing and shoving...

Arrival in central Dudelange.  I went first to the post office to pick up a letter sent to me by a friend, poste restante, with a topoguide for Lorraine, the next section of the hike.

  1. Ditto - 35°C here in Germany biking along the beautiful Kocher and Jagst valleys - rejoicing in shade. Don't forget your sun screen - another hot one today!

We anticipate you'll be near Rombas in Lorraine by tonight or tomorrow. You navigated Luxembourg faster than anticipated! We're looking for a point of RV somewhere around Saverne for next weekend as you head east.
