Zoersel

11 May 2015:  Suddenly, we're getting good, spring weather – lots of sunshine.  We felt the sun today as we walked about 28 km from Loenhout to Zoersel.  The copious, delicious breakfast that Valerie served us helped to propel us along the long, paved paths of our "trail".  It was not until mid-afternoon that we finally walked on dirt paths through a forest.  And we concluded the hike with more than 5 km of walking on roads off the GR5 to a place in Zoersel offering "serviced flats".  (There are few hotels and B&Bs along the GR5 in this area.)  I was pleased at the end of the day to take a load off my feet and to hoist a Trappist beer that had been brewed at the monastery we passed during our hike today!

Mary, who has some experience and knowledge on the subject, has been impressed by the horses we've seen in this area:

An unusual sight (near Brecht): a vending machine selling bread – five different types!

We walked along the Schoten-Turnhout canal, sharing the path with many cyclists who rarely encounter walkers on "their" path.

A break for coffee & tea near Bridge 11:

Note the family car on the poop deck:

Mary is thrilled to walk on a dirt path for the first time today:

A horse-drawn wagon with young children and women (mothers, probably) rolling through the forest:

Relaxing on the terrace of our flat at the "Residentie Lindehof" at the end of a long day, sampling a couple of the well-known local beers:
